Greek Government Spokesman Demetris Tzanakopoulos has described as positive the negotiations on Cyprus, following Wednesday`s exchange of maps between the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides.
In statements in Athens, he said however that critical issues remain open.
He repeated that Greece and Cyprus are in favour of a fair and viable solution to the Cyprus problem in the framework of UN decisions, adding that the EU supports the Greek positions on security and guarantees.
Regarding the possibility of the Greek Prime Minister travelling to Geneva, Tzanakopoulos said this would become evident if there is a possibility of a solution, adding that if necessary, there will be a telephone conversation between Alexis Tsipras and Turkish President Tayip Erdogan.
The UN are hosting a conference on Cyprus to address the issue of security and guarantees, with the participation of Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci and the three guarantor powers (Greece, Turkey and the UK).
