In Limassol, two cars were completely destroyed by fire within the last 24 hours in two separate incidents, police reported on Wednesday.
The fire department was notified at 3:00 am on Wednesday morning that a vehicle had caught on fire in the street while parked outside the owner’s house in Imvros Street in Mesa Yeitonia area.
The Fire Station of St. Nicholas rushed to the scene immediately.
The vehicle belongs to a 52-year-old and, at the time of the fire, was parked outside the house of a 50-year old who is currently using the vehicle.
In a separate incident at 19:22 on Tuesday afternoon, the St. John’s Fire Department responded to a car fire near the street of Tzelar Bayar. The firefighters immediately responded to the incident, and were able to extinguish the fire soon afterwards.
The fires are said to have caused extensive damage to both cars, with an approximate cost of damage estimated at €2,000.
Limassol authorities are currently investigating the cause of both fires.
Authorities also noted that 22 calls for assistance were received by fire departments across the island yesterday, of which five required special assistance and two were discovered to be hoax calls.
