Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will support the position of Cyprus on the issue of Turkey`s intervention in the exclusive economic zone after a coordination meeting with President Nikos Anastasiades last night in Brussels, a Greek government source told CNA. Alexis Tsipras will address the Informal EU27 Council this evening for that matter, right after the speech of President Anastasiades.
According to the same source, the meeting, which lasted for just over an hour, was held in a good atmosphere and coordination was achieved with regard to the arguments presented by the Greek and Cypriot sides both in the Informal Council itself and in the bilateral meetings.
As announced, both Alexis Tsipras and Nikos Anastasiades will inform their counterparts on a bilateral basis. They will also have a joint meeting with Italian Prime Minister Gentilloni, while the Greek Prime Minister will also inform separately EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Federica Mogherini. The aim of the Greek side is to push the EU to take a clear and clear position on the issue of Turkish interventions in the Cypriot EEZ. In this context, President Tusc`s final position on the issue, in the style and spirit of both his past statements and the spirit of the Juncker`s statement (opposing Turkish actions), will be considered satisfactory. In addition, the EU has a wide range of pressure tools to Ankara “on the way to Varna,” as he told the CNA, another EU diplomat.
