As the dance music world continues to come to terms with the tragic passing of Swedish superstar Avicii, entertainment magazine Aftonbladet yesterday revealed that Avicii’s family have given their nod of approval for the Swede’s label to continue with their plans to release his latest album.
Having spent much of his time in the studio following his retirement from touring, there remains a heavy catalogue of Avicii music that is yet to be unveiled. And when asked about what would happen to all of Tim’s unreleased productions, Geffen Records president Neil Jacobson explained during an interview with Variety that he was “going to sit down and talk to the family once everybody has a chance to take a breath.” Now it seems this conversation has taken place, as Aftonbladet reports that Avicii’s family have “met [with] record company representatives and partners and agree that an album will be released before the end of the year.”
With some of Avicii’s most popular hits never actually receiving an official release, it remains to be seen which tracks will be included, as some new Avicii music has surfaced since his passing. Nicky Romero is one of the numerous DJs who has made on the Swede’s IDs a highlight of their live sets, as he continues to play an unreleased collaboration with Chris Martin. Rumoured to be his best music in years, we can only hope that this album receives the recognition it deserves.
