The funeral of the former president took place at the Holy Church of God’s Wisdom in Strovolos.
Family, friends and Cypriot citizens gathered on Tuesday afternoon to bid their last farewell to former President Demetris Christofias who passed away on Friday after a long and hard battle with serious health issues.
People of all ages paid their respect to the former President on Tuesday when the casket was taken to PEO headquarters from 9am – 3pm where everyone signed the condolences book.
Then the casket was transferred to the Holy Church of God’s Wisdom in Strovolos where the funeral ceremony took place, floods of AKEL supporters and citizens showed their appreciation by applauding the hearse while it was making its way towards the church.
The President was taken to his last resting place at approximately 5pm when he was laid to rest at the Makedonitissa cemetery in Nicosia.
Amongst the people that attended was Greek PM Alexis Tsipras and the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, members of all political parties in Cyprus.
