An official of the UN Secretariat has said that he does not know of any announcement as to the return of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, in Crans-Montana, Switzerland where a Conference on Cyprus is taking place.
“I do not know of any such announcement today,” was his reply to a journalist’s question relating to information that an announcement of Guterres’ return to Crans-Montana was imminent.
It had been earlier, announced by the UN SG’s spokesperson that Guterres had visited Lisbon where, among others, he had a meeting with Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Silva.
The UN SG is expected to return to New York and the UN headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.
UN-facilitated peace talks are currently underway in this Swiss ski resort with a view to finding a negotiated settlement to reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion, under a federal roof.
