Bizarre Cantona speech baffles world including Messi and Ronaldo

First it was seagulls and trawlers, now Eric Cantona has baffled the world with a speech referencing King Lear, science and eternal life.

The Manchester United legend, accepting the UEFA President’s Award before Thursday’s Champions League draw in Monaco, delivered a short discourse that began with a quote from the Shakespeare play.

Thereafter, he mused on the ageing process and threats to society, before concluding by saying he loved football.

“As flies to wanton boys we are for the gods, they kill us for their sport,” he said. “Soon the science will not only be able to slow down the ageing of the cells, soon the science will fix the cells to the state and so we will become eternal.

“Only accidents, crimes, wars, will still kill us but unfortunately, crimes, wars, will multiply. I love football. Thank you.”

The reaction to the speech on social media focused on its gnomic content and the reaction of those present, especially current greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The Portuguese forward appeared baffled.

Most empathised with the Juventus player’s seeming confusion, but others were able to make sense of it, claiming he was undermining the wealthy superstars in the room.
